Grafite Sudoku — a week of paper and pencil

This week Grafite Sudoku got three updates (2.9.4 to 2.9.6), and the app finally looks like its name.

Pencil, not pixels. Your own numbers and notes are now written in pencil, while the given numbers stay printed. You can tell your work from the puzzle at a glance. The handwriting is Virgil, an open-source font by Ellinor Rapp for Excalidraw. Like every font in the app, it ships inside it: nothing is loaded from Google.

Your games on the table. The home screen puts your game at the centre, drawn as a silhouette of sakura petals so you can't study the grid with the clock stopped. Games in progress sit as stacked sheets, each in its mode's colour; swipe to switch. When you open the app they "breathe" once, then stay still.

Less clutter. Every option now lives in one place. Menus are shorter, dialogs have the square corners of a sheet of paper, the icons are hand-drawn, and the "Large" size really makes numbers, notes and keypad bigger.

Small things players asked for. Notes clean themselves up when you place a number. That came straight from a tester's feedback. A quick double back returns home, and leaving the app asks first.

Fixes. Duel links open the game again instead of the Play Store, a duel no longer hides your regular game, and the app asks for one permission fewer.

As always: no ads, no accounts, no data collected.
