MAF Blox 1.8 Is Out β€” Localization, Audio, Achievements & More

MAF Blox 1.8 is now live! 🚧

This update became much bigger than I originally planned. Most of the work went into polishing the core game, improving player feedback, fixing older systems, and preparing the project for the next major update β€” City Mode in version 1.9.

🌍 Full Localization

MAF Blox now supports 10 languages:

  • Ukrainian
  • English
  • Spanish
  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • Turkish
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Indonesian
  • Dutch

I also rebuilt the localization workflow itself.

The project now has an automated localization toolkit that can scan the game for missing text, validate String Tables, detect broken bindings, and help synchronize new content.

This will be especially important for future story content, tutorials and dialogue in City Mode.

πŸ† Reworked Achievements

The achievement system received a major update.

MAF Blox now has its own in-game Achievements panel with:

  • 16 achievements
  • visible progress
  • locked and unlocked states
  • localized titles and descriptions
  • Google Play Games synchronization
  • achievement notification indicators

Achievement icons were also improved so the custom in-game panel can support proper locked and unlocked artwork.

πŸ“… More Daily Tasks

The Daily Tasks system has been expanded.

There are now more daily objectives, all fully localized.

The Main Menu also received notification dots that appear when:

  • a Daily Reward can be claimed
  • a Daily Task has a reward ready
  • a new Achievement has not yet been viewed

This makes it much easier to notice available rewards.

πŸ“Š Better Player Statistics

The player statistics system was reorganized and expanded.

The game now keeps track of things such as:

  • games started
  • games completed
  • blocks placed
  • towers completed
  • highest completed tower
  • mission completions
  • unique missions
  • booster usage
  • earned and spent coins

I also fixed an older Profile issue where the β€œtowers built” value was reading the wrong statistic.

πŸ… Leaderboard Improvements

The Firebase leaderboard received another round of improvements.

The main goal was to make Overall, Weekly and Daily rankings behave more consistently.

An old lifetime record should no longer automatically appear as a new Daily or Weekly score simply because the game was launched or progress was restored.

The leaderboard UI was also improved with row reuse and duplicate protection to reduce unnecessary UI rebuilding.

πŸ—οΈ Improved Arcade Progression

Arcade Mode now has smoother early difficulty.

Previously the crane carriage could use almost its full horizontal travel range from the beginning.

In 1.8, its horizontal movement starts much smaller and gradually increases as the tower grows.

The movement range now progresses from roughly 0.4 on the lowest floors up to 2.2 at higher floors.

This should make the beginning more approachable while still making tall towers increasingly difficult.

πŸ”Š Audio & Music Overhaul

The audio system was heavily reworked.

Version 1.8 now includes:

  • separate Main Menu music
  • separate Gameplay music
  • improved UI button sounds
  • gameplay transition sounds
  • booster sounds
  • kiosk crash sound
  • Win and Game Over feedback
  • achievement and reward audio
  • more consistent sound handling across menus and gameplay

The game is also prepared for dynamic gameplay music states such as:

  • Normal
  • Tension
  • Danger
  • Event

These will become much more important in City Mode.

πŸ“³ Improved Haptics

Android vibration was also rebuilt.

Instead of using the same strong vibration everywhere, the game now supports different haptic patterns for different events.

For example:

  • block placement
  • perfect placement
  • boosters
  • crashes
  • victories
  • Game Over

can now feel different.

πŸ”§ UI & Stability Improvements

There were also many smaller fixes and improvements:

  • localized Pause, Win and Game Over panels
  • improved result text handling
  • cleaner UI ownership
  • better button feedback
  • improved profile statistics
  • better localization coverage
  • additional stability fixes

πŸ™οΈ What’s Next β€” City Mode

The next major content update will be version 1.9.

The focus will be a new City Mode.

The current plan includes:

  • a Kyiv-inspired district map
  • progression through city districts
  • story elements
  • dialogue
  • tutorial and onboarding
  • new gameplay events
  • dynamic music changes
  • new challenges and progression systems

A lot of the technical groundwork for that update was already prepared in 1.8.

Localization, audio, haptics, achievements, player statistics, notification systems and editor tools are now much easier to expand.

Version 1.8 was mainly about making the game stronger under the hood before moving into much larger content.

Thanks to everyone who has tested MAF Blox, reported bugs or left feedback.

This is still my first game, and every update is also part of the learning process.

MAF Blox 1.8 is available now.
