Devlog #5: the hidden tower synergies, for real this time

Hey. I promised this topic at the end of devlog 1. Then devlog 2 became the story of a meme king moving into the game, and devlog 3 became the map rework. So this is the post I owed you twice. The sticky note can finally come off the monitor.

One honest correction first. When I wrote that promise, the game had 7 synergies. I kept building while I kept not writing, and the current version has 10. So devlog 1 is officially outdated, by my own fault.

How they work: a synergy is a fixed pair of towers. You unlock each pair in the meta tree between runs. Inside a run, the moment both tower types stand on the field, a glowing link snaps between them and both sides get a buff that pushes what that tower already does. Shard + Prism: Shard fires 25% faster, Prism pierces 2 more enemies. Blackhole + Hex is my favorite. The Blackhole drags a whole group into one spot, and the buffed Hex chains through the pile.

The exception is Storm Forge, the only triple. Bastion + Shard + Pulse. When all three are up, a lightning triangle forms between the towers, and anything that crosses a beam takes constant damage. It is the only synergy that adds a new weapon instead of bigger numbers, which is why it sits at the top of the meta tree.

Two details I like:

1. Synergies recalculate only when you place, sell or upgrade a tower, never per frame. Only the Storm Forge lightning animates and deals damage every frame. The devlog 1 performance rules still apply.

2. Since the last update, hybrids from the Foundry can join in once you research the right Foundry upgrade. A hybrid then counts as both of its parent towers. Which means a Shard + Prism hybrid can trigger Shatter Protocol completely alone. One tower, one synergy, zero partners.

Why the game stays quiet about all this in a run: the meta tree names the pair when you unlock it, but nothing in a run reminds you of it. The first time a link snaps on, you get a burst, a beam and a banner, and that moment belongs to you. After that, the codex keeps what you discovered.
