How One Bench Press Set Becomes a Monster Encounter

One of the questions Infitnite has to answer clearly is simple: what are you actually doing when you play a Fitness Fantasy RPG?

The answer starts with a real workout.

A hand holding a phone displaying an Infitnite Barbell Bench Press Combat Quest against the Magma Brute in a high-fantasy arena

This Combat preview shows Barbell Bench Press. The player logs 135 pounds for five reps at RPE 7, which is their effort rating for the set.

That set becomes a Wave and deals 710 damage to the Magma Brute. The monster is Bloodied at 29% health, but the encounter is not over. It strikes back for 16 Resolve.

Nothing on that screen moves the weight for you. The set has to happen first.

The workout is the combat system

A lot of fitness gamification happens after the activity. You complete a workout, then an app adds points, badges, or a streak on top of it.

I wanted the training itself to drive what happens in the game.

Inside a Combat Quest, an exercise is paired with a monster encounter. You perform the exercise, record what you actually did, and the encounter responds to that work. Weight, repetitions, effort, the monster's remaining health, and your own Resolve all become part of the same session.

The goal is not to replace the workout with a game. The goal is to make the workout the thing the game is responding to.

What the screen needs to explain

This interface has to answer four questions while someone is already training:

  • What exercise am I doing?
  • What did I just log?
  • What did that set do to the monster?
  • What do I need to do next?

That is why the screen keeps the exercise, target reps, previous performance, monster health, Resolve, battle feed, and the next logging action together.

There is a design tension here. If the role-playing layer becomes too dense, it gets in the way of the workout. If it becomes too thin, it is only a workout tracker with fantasy labels. I am trying to make the game readable without making the training disappear underneath it.

What is live and what is still being built

Infitnite is already available on iPhone, iPad, and Android. With Pathfinder, the free way to play, you can create a Warrior Avatar and build your own custom Combat Quests without subscribing.

The interface shown here is a development preview from the Combat update being prepared for Update 2. It is not yet the public store build, and I am not attaching a release date before the production version is ready.

Vanguard remains optional. It adds the ready-made Training Grounds workout Library, Magical Intelligence, additional workout options, and deeper guidance. It does not buy levels, raw power, or the progression your Warrior is meant to earn through real activity.

Combat is one part of the larger game. Nutrition becomes Alchemy, mental development becomes Intellect, and community activity becomes Influence. All four disciplines develop the same persistent Warrior.

I want the feedback to be specific

When you look at this screen, can you tell what happened in the last set and what you need to do next?

If not, which part loses you?

That is the kind of feedback that helps me improve the experience before this Combat update reaches the public build.

For the broader starting point, I also updated the New Warrior FAQ with 30 answers covering how to begin, Warrior Avatar choices, progression, Pathfinder and Vanguard, and your first Quest.
