Devlog: The street dog joins, and the demo loads twice as fast
Two things in this update: a new chaser who barks, and a browser demo that gets you into the gali much faster.
KUTTA, the street dog. The fourth new chaser is here: a tan desi street dog with white socks and a curled-up tail. One bark and he's after you. He gallops with his ears flapping, and when he catches Gali he rears up and snaps. You'll find him last in the CHASERS tab for 3,500 coins, and he plays by the same rules as Mummy, Sharma Aunty, Havaldar Pandey and Masterji.
The demo loads twice as fast. PixelPicked showed us that about a third of plays ended in the first 10 seconds, while the demo took 30 to 45 seconds to load. It was 33 MB; now it's 13.5 MB. On a 10 Mbit/s phone connection it reaches the menu in about 12 seconds instead of 29.
- While it loads, you see the chase and the controls to learn (swipes on a phone, keys on a computer), not a blank screen.
- The Unity logo screen is gone.
- On your first visit nothing pops up in front of PLAY. The daily reward waits until after your first run.
- On a phone, a tap just outside the game no longer pauses your run.
- Your score now reaches PixelPicked when a run ends.
1.2.0 on Android. The Android version with all four new chasers, Diwali by day, the brighter streets and the settings gear is with Google Play for review for our closed testers, and we've sent it to the PhonePe Appstore too.
Next up: making your first run one to remember. The chase starts the moment you arrive, the first obstacles come in slow motion so you learn the swipes, a jetpack drops early, and Mummy starts throwing her chappal down the lane. Dodge it!
Thanks for playing and for every comment here. Give the new demo a run and tell us how fast it loads for you.
