Expansion Campaign Rebuilt: Better Variety, Clearer Beams, and a PAR 40 Finale

Lumen Vault's five expansion chapters have received a major board-design and presentation pass. The goal was not to fill every board with more pieces. It was to make every route more deliberate, make every expansion optic matter, and stop the campaign from falling into recognizable solve patterns.

More varied puzzles

The Cryogenic, Orbital, Flooded, Quantum, and Stellar chapters now use a much broader mix of layouts and solving paths.

  • Cryo Tunnels are required crossings instead of optional shortcuts that can be walked around. They can skip a component or a void cell as intended.
  • Expansion optics remain available in later chapters, with varied combinations and quantities instead of a predictable unlock pattern.
  • Every supplied component is part of the intended solution. There are no deliberate leftovers.
  • Emitters and receivers are distributed across the board instead of being clumped together or repeatedly lined up along the bottom edge.
  • Open-center shortcuts, narrow single-file trails, repeated room layouts, and near-identical solved paths have been removed from the revised designs.
  • Portals, barriers, filters, absorbers, voids, and board geometry do more of the difficulty work, so harder puzzles are not just piles of expansion components.

Special-case boards received their own rules. Prism layouts no longer aim colored emitters toward the matching split beams from the start. Fusion Core boards do not use Prisms, and their red, green, and blue sources are spread out so combining them takes real routing. Fixed devices stay fixed; players still place only the movable optical pieces.

A faster difficulty climb

The campaign now ramps more aggressively from the opening boards through the later arrays. Early expansion levels establish each new device without pre-solving the route, while later levels combine mechanics, obstacles, timing, and spatial planning. The final Stellar board is now PAR 40.

PAR values were tracked from the authored solution routes without using an automatic solver to design the boards. Shortcut reports remain important: if a player finds a shorter valid route, that board will be reviewed directly.

Clearer optics

Color filters now have a strong color-matched glow, including an emissive frame, board halo, and raised beacon that remain visible from the normal gameplay camera. Red, green, blue, and white beams have also been separated more clearly so overlapping routes are easier to read without washing every beam toward white.

The Android launcher artwork has also been corrected for the new build, replacing the Unity fallback icon that appeared on some phones.

Validation

The current campaign was captured across four screen shapes: 16:9, ultrawide, tablet 4:3, and phone 20:9. That produced 1,000 board screenshots with no automated framing failures. The 120 later-expansion boards also passed the current archive checks, and the Unity EditMode suite completed with 99 tests passing, no failures, and one intentional skip.

This is the largest puzzle-quality pass Lumen Vault has received so far. If you discover an unintended shortcut, a confusing color read, or two boards that still feel too similar, please share the board codes and move counts. That feedback is exactly what helps sharpen the vault.
