Chapter III
Devlog: Chapter 3 — "The Reply"
Chapter 2 ended with the siege of New Dallas broken. Chapter 3 is the Federation’s response - and honestly, it’s been the hardest chapter for me to build so far.
The basic idea is pretty simple: humanity finally realizes that this war is a question, and now the fleet has to decide what kind of answer it wants to give.
The orders are clear: military targets only. Don’t chase disabled ships. Don’t turn a victory into a massacre.
And, more importantly, every battle is happening in front of people who are watching humanity and deciding what we actually are.
That changed the way I had to design the missions.
Two of them are built around keeping someone else alive instead of just destroying everything on the field. And the final mission doesn’t even want you to wipe out the enemy fleet. You have to cripple about half of it - and then stop.
If you destroy them all, you’ve technically won the battle and completely missed the point.
Right now Chapter 3 has 13 missions, including one hidden mission that doesn’t appear on the map until you discover it. I’ve written 33 dialogue files, and I rebuilt the Saurian fleets so the occupied zone doesn’t feel like you’re fighting the same hull over and over again.
There are war barges, brood carriers, clan hunting parties, and a few different fleet styles that should make the Saurians feel much more like an actual military instead of a collection of targets.
Their AI also ramps up to Veteran over the course of the chapter.
What’s left is mostly balance work on the harder difficulties and another dialogue polish pass. Chapter 3 is staying behind the dev flag until I’m happy with it.
But this is also the chapter where the Saurians stop being just enemies on the map.
They become a people with a history, a culture - and a ledger.
Keth valori san'dreth.
