About this game

Since the Soccer World Cup this year my son (6) has been asking me about every flag he sees. "Which country is that? And that one?" Every single time. I loved it so I went looking for a flag quiz app for him.

Everything I found was aimed at adults. Loads of adverts, tiny text and the big issue is he can't read at all. He'll look at four answer buttons and just guess on the first letter. Not really learning at all.

I've been an Android developer for over 12 years, though always for other companies or agencies. So this was my first solo app: Field Atlas.

The thing I really wanted was that every question and every answer is read out loud. There's a 'read all' button which will read through the options one at a time and highlight the one it's reading so a child who can't read at all can still play on their own. (Works just as well for an adult who can't read, or indeed anyone learning a new language.)

What else is in there:

Flags, capitals, and a map mode where you name the highlighted country

A daily challenge that’s the same for everyone, plus a weekly one

Every country gets a stamp per quiz type, and your world map slowly fills up

Pass-the-phone multiplayer for 2 to 6 players (my dad and my Nephew love it he most 😄 )

16 languages (English, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish, Russian, Croatian, Indonesian, and more)

No account, no ads, no tracking, no subscription

On money - the fundamentals are free. Some of the features (read aloud, speed rounds, multiplayer) can be tried 3 times each before you need to pay to unlock them. No subscription. I actually did have a bit of a struggle about whether to include read aloud - it's what really makes the app in my opinion and I needed something to justify the effort. 🙈

Would be interested in feedback, particularly from other parents.
