About this game

A sloth hero explores a mossy kingdom: fight with club, spear, sling and spells, level up foraging, fishing, tinkering and magic, and take on ten bosses, from a dragon to a council of wizards. Pets follow you, a Moon-Mare carries you, and campfire jams play you a tune.

How to play

  • You are a young sloth in Mossgate Hollow. Elder Fernwhistle gives you three short quests that teach everything: fighting, gathering and tinkering.
  • Fight creatures with a paw-club, a reed-spear or a sling. Every creature crouches, glows or scrapes before it attacks, so watch for the warning and roll through it.
  • Four skills level up as you use them. Foraging: hold to pluck and let go in the green. Fishing: reel in, but ease off when the fish thrashes. Tinkering: tap as the hammer passes each mark. Magic: cast spells, and they grow stronger.
  • Every skill level unlocks something new: new plants, new fish, new recipes. At the workbench you turn what you gather into weapons, armor, rods and food.
  • When you are ready, go under the bramble wall through Rootdeep and face the Bramblemaw in the Hollow Heart. Beyond it lie the Panda Highlands: learn magic and the paper glider, ride the updrafts across the mist gap and face the Thundercrane on the Moon Summit. If you fall, you roll home and lose a little gold.
  • Beside the main quests run storylines you can take in any order: follow the Wise Terrapin from shrine to shrine, heal the Axolotl Springs, decide what to do with Grum's crate, and make choices for the villagers that change your rewards.
  • Ten bosses wait across the kingdom: the Bramblemaw, the Thundercrane, Emberwing the dragon, the Silkmother, the Rimefather, the Centaur, the Moon-Mare, the Great Centipede, Bigfoot and the Wizards' council. Each one warns you before its big attack, and each leaves something behind: a charm, an enchant stone or a pet.
  • Pets follow you once their boss falls: a dragon whelp that spits fireballs, a snow pup, a spiderling, a foal and more. Pick one on the Hero tab, and each gives you a small bonus. Beat the Moon-Mare and she carries you: you run faster and can jump a second time in the air.
  • Find the tune fragments and jam at a campfire beside a lit shrine: tap in time for eight beats, and the tune gives you speed, strength or luck for a while.
  • After the Bramblemaw and the Thundercrane, Ascend: the world tier rises, creatures grow tougher, loot gets rarer, and you keep a permanent bonus. Gear comes in five rarities, weapons upgrade to +15 and your level goes to 99.

Tips

  • Keep pressing attack for a three-hit combo. The third hit of the paw-club knocks creatures far back.
  • Pebblehorns block hits from the front with their shields. Hit them from behind, or right after they slam the ground.
  • Some walls are not what they seem. Look for faint glowing seams and a cracked stone wall deep in Rootdeep.
  • Light every lantern shrine you pass. Resting at one heals you fully, and you can travel between lit shrines.
