CrissCross is a playful crossword game for iPhone that helps children from around age eight practise spelling, build their vocabulary and grow more confident with words. Read a short clue, sound out the answer and choose the letters that fit. Every finished grid is a little “I got it!” moment.

Play at your own pace

Each regular crossword comes with four hints that reveal one letter at a time. Unfinished puzzles save automatically, so children can pick up where they left off. Optional iCloud sync keeps solved puzzles in sync.

Pick a favourite topic or try the Daily Puzzle for a fresh grid. Race the stopwatch in Speed Run, listen and spell in By Ear, or revisit words you’ve mistapped with Fix Mistaps. Hints are available in every mode, and children can dip in whenever they like, with no streaks to keep up.

Make each medal your own

Finish every puzzle in a topic to earn its medal, then decorate it with patterns and add it to your collection. Earn badges for milestones like solving without hints, unlock new themes and app icons, and discover little sounds and surprises along the way.

CrissCross began as a spelling game Robin made for his son, Tom. Tom tested it, helped choose the topics and came up with the medals. Now it’s ready for other young word explorers.
