Dinodex is a browser-based dinosaur game (soon to be in Google Store) where you collect unique species based on real paleontology and story. Build your own roster, breed new generations, create hybrids, fight other players and slowly fill a Dex with dinosaurs that are unique in stats, design and movements.

You don't need to download anything. Open the game in your browser, claim your first dinosaur and start playing.

Build a collection that's actually yours

You can collect T. rex, Spinosaurus, Triceratops and plenty of other species, but finding a dinosaur is only the start.

Your creatures have their own stats, genes, moves, equipment and progression. You can level them up, improve their attributes and build them around the way you want to play.

That also means your T. rex doesn't have to be the same as mine.

You might end up with one built around raw attack, another with better speed or survivability, or a particularly good dinosaur that becomes the foundation of your next breeding line.

The more you play, the more personal your collection becomes.

Breed your dinosaurs

This is one of my favorite parts of Dinodex.

You can breed compatible dinosaurs and create offspring that inherit characteristics from their parents. Keep experimenting with different combinations and you can gradually build stronger, stranger or simply more interesting creatures.

Some pairings can also lead to Hybrids, which are completely new dinosaurs created from the species you've collected.

Search for your next great dinosaur. But you may find an aberration that destroys that entire breeding line.

Take them into battle

Once you're happy with a dinosaur, put it to work.

Dinodex uses turn-based combat with move cards, so you'll choose attacks and defensive abilities while keeping an eye on things like power, accuracy, HP and your opponent's build.

You can fight wild dinosaurs in PvE to earn XP, genes, gear and other rewards, then take your roster into multiplayer battles against other players.

A high level helps, but your stats, moves and build matter too.

Customize how your dinosaurs play

Every dinosaur has four main attributes:

Attack, Defense, Speed and HP.

As they grow, you can improve their stats, unlock moves and equip different pieces of gear.

Gear affects your build in different ways, and you'll find equipment for areas such as the head, body and tail. Genes add another layer to how your creatures develop.

I want you to have reasons to experiment instead of automatically equipping whatever has the biggest number next to it.

Trade with other players

Your collection doesn't exist in isolation.

You can trade with other players and look for the dinosaurs, genes or items you need.

Maybe someone bred a creature with stats you're after. Maybe you have something valuable that doesn't fit your team. Or maybe you're both trying to complete completely different parts of your collections.

Breeding and trading together mean there can be a real history behind the dinosaurs you own.

Discover the prehistoric world

I also wanted Dinodex to have something I rarely see given enough attention in dinosaur games.

Through the Paleo Atlas, you can discover species from different regions around the world and gradually uncover more of the prehistoric roster.

Open a dinosaur's Science section and you'll find information about its diet, geological period, region and history.

There are quizzes too, so while you're breeding monsters and throwing them into an arena, you can also learn about the animals they're based on.

Dinodex definitely has fun with paleontology, but I still want the real science to have a place in the game.

Hunt, collect and keep improving

There are a lot of different things you can work toward.

You can hunt for new species, level your favorites, improve their stats, collect gear, experiment with genes, breed new generations, discover Hybrids, fight wild dinosaurs, challenge other players, trade and explore the Paleo Atlas.

But Dinodex doesn't have a single way to play:

• You can chase the strongest team you can build.
• You can obsess over breeding.
• You can try to collect everything.

Or you can spend far too much time trying to create one absurdly good dinosaur.

You can jump into Dinodex directly from your browser.

That was important to me because I wanted Dinodex to be something you could easily open, play for a while and come back to without turning it into a whole event.

I'm building Dinodex by myself

There's one person behind Dinodex. That's me.

I'm an indie developer building the dinosaur game I've wanted to play myself. It's something that mixes collecting, breeding, strategy, multiplayer, trading and paleontology without reducing the dinosaurs to interchangeable characters.

Dinodex is still growing, and I'm constantly working on new creatures, Hybrids, systems and improvements.

If you start playing now, you're joining pretty early in that journey.

I want to see people playing the game, finding broken combinations, asking for dinosaurs I somehow forgot, breeding ridiculous creatures and telling me what works. All help shape what Dinodex becomes.
