Game Description

Swamps is a choice-based interactive fiction set in the Nazi-occupied Belarusian marshes of Polesia, autumn 1941.

You play Mikhaś, a young village feldsher — the only healer for miles. One night there's a knock at the window: a wounded man, shot down over the bogs. Treating him is a death sentence for your wife and the whole village; turning him away leaves a man to die. There's no clean way out — and from that night, your war begins.

This isn't a story about heroes or feats. It's about an ordinary man who can do one thing — heal — and the price of every choice, which someone living always pays. Written in the stark tradition of Vasil Bykaŭ: no right answers, only consequences the whole district remembers.

Five deeply branching chapters. Free, offline, single-player — playable in the browser, on iOS and Android, in multiple languages you can switch in-game. The story, choices and prose are hand-written; the illustrations were made with AI tools and curated into a single painterly style.

Part One of the Swamps trilogy. The sequel — Swamps II: The Blockade — is out now.
